Servicing a Yamaha outboard is essential for maintaining performance, reliability, and longevity on the water.
Proper maintenance involves a comprehensive checklist that typically includes changing the engine oil and filter, inspecting and replacing the spark plugs, checking the fuel system components, and servicing the lower unit gear oil and water pump impeller.

The initial service is typically recommended after the first three months or 20 hours of use, whichever comes first.
Regular servicing is key. Most manufacturers recommend servicing your outboard every 100 hours of operation or annually, even if you haven’t reached the 100 hour mark.
A typical 20hr/ 3 month service generally takes 2 hours.
A 100hr/ 12 month service typically takes 3-4 hours. This means same day turnaround on most occasions (these service times may vary).
Spark plug changing is unlikely to be completed by the owner/ customer as this is done at the correct service interval.
At Marine Masters, we inspect and clean Anodes every 12 months/ 100 hour service. If the Anodes are found not to be serviceable, they will be replaced whilst completing the service. If your boat is moored in a pen etc, you may need to change these items depending on the location.
A well-maintained outboard that is run regularly and has not been run dry from water should have a water pump life expectancy of 12-18 months. The Water pump impeller should be replaced/ inspected every 12 months.
Please note, if your Outboard motor is not pumping water, we recommend checking for blockages in the tell tail hose as it is common to find insects in the outlet stopping the waterflow.
